Cultural awareness


Cultural awareness involves recognizing different beliefs, values and customs that other people have that are based on their origins or upbringings. This workshop will enable delegates to fully comprehend that cultural awareness positions people to be more successful in both personal and professional relationships.

Workshop Outline

This practical, motivational workshop is based on the 3 Building Blocks of:

  • Cultural Awareness
  • Embracing Diversity
  • Building Tolerance

This will equip your team with the knowledge and practical skills they will need to be culturally aware.  It will help them understand, embrace and manage diversity in your workplace and make them tolerant of each other in order to work together productively and in alignment.

The workshop will not be just an information session but will mix theoretical knowledge with practical application, so that this becomes part of the DNA of your teams.

Building Block 1:

Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity

Building Block 2:

Embrace Diversity

After the workshop your teams will be able to:

  • Understand what diversity is
  • Know the distinct benefits of Workplace Diversity
  • Understand and manage the challenges of Workplace Diversity
  • Role-play and interact in smaller groups with practical ice-breakers and games designed to improve understanding of diversity
  • Start a dialogue with each other around:
    • What does diversity mean to us?
    • How can diversity help our company?
    • In what ways do we already celebrate diversity?
    • How does diversity fit in with our company values?
    • What can we do to bring everyone to the table?
    • Is our company ready to include everyone at the table?
    • How can we use diverse points of view to succeed?

Building Block 3:

Building Tolerance in the Workplace

After the workshop your teams will be able to:

  • Understand what tolerance at work means
  • Understand why it is so important to practice tolerance at work
  • Tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviour that they dislike or disagree with
  • Know how to tolerate others in difficult situations
  • Practice the 6 steps to develop a more tolerant outlook
